Pilates is a holistic exercise and training method developed by Joseph H. Pilates (1883-1967) in form of a systematic training to strengthen the skeletal muscles, a concept that he referred to as „Contrology". Pilates was a professional boxer and self-defense teacher who studied intensively different training methods such as Yoga and Zen Meditation. He was a visionary who dedicated his life to the spreading and the continuous development of his physical training method.
Strengthening the lower-lying trunk muscles (abdominal, back and pelvic floor muscles) is an important element of all Pilates exercises. This contributes to improving upon strength, stability and mobility considerably. The precise execution of the exercises, supported by conscious breathing technique and corresponding concentration as well as the maintaining of a nice flow of movements help to balance body and soul.
Furthermore, aligning the spine and enhancing body awareness lead to a better posture in everyday life, thus relieving the joints and protecting the body from injuries.
Thanks to its versatility and possibilities of adaptation, this method is ideal for anyone wishing to work out in a goal-oriented and sensible manner – either as a sole training method or in combination with other sports. Pilates is also practiced successfully in rehabilitation.
Pilates & Slings
Pilates is complemented optimally by Slings Myofascial Training®. Integral Slings training is mat-based and can be enriched by the use of massage balls or other supportive props.
The interaction of muscles and fascia provides internal support, energy efficiency, and adaptability to different life circumstances. The combination of Slings and Pilates optimizes structural balance in the body, helping to improve upon athletic performance and functionality in everyday life.
Two major goals of Pilates combined with Slings are freedom of movement and love of movement: because freedom of movement is synonymous with quality of life and love of movement is the best medicine!
Slings training is based on new findings in fascia research and movement science. Furthermore, Slings implies the Anatomy Trains concept which portrays the body-wide interconnectedness of muscles and fascia in myo-fascial slings (short “Slings”).
